No trip planning can be complete without a budget earmarked for the trip. When it comes to a bike trip to Ladakh, there are a number of factors such as the traveller’s preferences for comfort, preparedness for weather conditions, and other unexpected circumstances that you have to consider for each of the major budget heads to come up with a budget that is closest to the actual spend.

Here are some of the essentials that you must bear in mind while calculating for a budget for your trip to Ladakh on a bike.

Travel Costs: A typical itinerary for a road trip to Leh-Ladakh would cost differently based on whether you are using your own bike or a rented one.

If you are using your private bike, you can assume to travel a distance of about3300-3600 km to and from Ladakh. Assuming your bike gives a mileage of an average of 25 kmpl, considering a mix of plains and hilly terrain, it would be safe to keep a fuel budget of about INR10,000- 12000.

If you decide to cover all the way to Leh-Ladakh on a rented bike, you can keep a minimum rental budget of Rs. 1000-1200 per day with fuel charges extra.

Hotel Costs: The next important budget item to consider if the accommodation part. Ladakh gives you quite a spread of stay options from decent hotels ranging from INR 125 to up to Rs. 700 per night. You can easily rent out a tent in the range of INR 250-500 for a night’s stay. Homestays range anywhere between INR 500-1500 while average hotels that would offer you a more comfortable stay would be near about INR 3000 and above per night.

Food Costs: Ladakh offers some quite reasonably priced food options. While your choice of vegetarian or non-vegetarian food does have a bearing on the food costs, an average cost of a meal here comes between INR150-INR175 per person (an average of about INR 300-450 per day for all meals). If you can afford to budget for a more lavish spread, you have some higher priced options as well. For those making the trip on a shoe-string budget, Ladakh brings Dhabha tents that provide food close to INR 50-75 per meal per person. You can take your pick.

Other Miscellaneous Costs: Other miscellaneous heads that should be budgeted for include costs of permits, toll charges, shopping and of course do keep a budget for adventure activities that you may want to undertake while here (depending on the time of the year!) such as rafting, paragliding, etc.
